Unforgettable and unprecedented! That is what 2020 was for all of us. What happened this year will go down into the pages of history.
This past year, we witnessed a global pandemic that took the lives of over a million people worldwide and still continues to claim lives. Natural disasters in the form of wildfires in California, Oregon, Washington State and Colorado, rendered thousands homeless and turned skies in the Bay Area a scary orange. Super hurricanes in the Gulf Coast and typhoons in South East Asia caused widespread flooding and landslides. And our country was rocked by demonstrations against systemic racism that led to violence all in the midst of a contentious presidential election.
We also saw the loss of businesses and jobs of millions of workers. Schools closed and turned to online-learning while parents worked from home. Churches were also affected -- Pastors found them
selves livestreaming religious services to their congregation. Wearing masks, social distancing, handwashing and “stay at home” were practiced to keep COVID19 away.
Christmas celebrations were also different in 2020. We were asked to limit gatherings to immediate family members. We keep on praying that COVID19 will be contained now that the vaccines are being made available.
Hopefully, 2021 will mark a start of a new beginning. The past year has given us a chance to realize what really matters in life -- a close relationship with God, our family and friends. We hope we will not lose these valuable lessons when our lives return to “normal.”
Most importantly, we thank God for all of his blessings this past year: for keeping us and our loved ones safe from COVID19 and providing us with all our needs. I wish you all a healthy, COVID-free New Year.
